In the 2016-2017 school year: 1,958 tuition scholarships and 274 tuition tax credits have sent 2,276 special needs students to 109 credentialed independent schools across South Carolina.
State wide, 2,487 families sought a total of $20.3m in support through the program, but the legislatively set caps on the program limited our work to $2m in tuition tax credits and $10m in credit funded scholarships.
The average scholarship per-student was $4,800 and the average parental tax credit $7,299. Frustratingly, for every $1,000 in eligible funding for deserving students requested, we could only serve $478.
